Cuban Immigrant
I was born in Havana Cuba in 1959, shortly after Fidel Castro came into power. My family suffered the consequences of not embracing communism. My father a physician, refused to teach communist doctrine at the medical school of the University of Havana, so we were expelled out of Havana. As a political dissident, my father was punished for years in Oriente, Cuba. When our time came to leave, all our belongings and savings were taken away. My family emmigrated empty-handed, via Spain, to enter the US as Cuban refugees. Fifty plus years later our family continues to be grateful to have entered America. My family was given the opportunity to work for and create our “American dream”.
